The Little Things in Life

Little Bao

Life is all about the little things that put a smile on your face, dessert from Little Bao does just that for me. My personal favorite the LB Ice Cream Bao made with salt ice cream and caramel! There is also a Green Tea with condensed milk and they usually have a special ice cream. They are made fresh as you order and take about 15 minutes. The Bao is hot melting the ice cream and the caramel is sticky, definitely a messy dessert, but isn’t that part of the fun? Eating the ice cream off your fingers as it drips is just part of the process.

This is not to say that the rest of the food at Little Bao is not delicious, it is all good. I love all of the savory Baos. The Pork Belly is particularly delicious, but the beef and fish are also really good. I love restaurants that don’t treat vegetarians like second class citizens, truffle mayo on the vegetarian Bao says it all, tempeh rarely tastes this good. Truffle fries get the same delicious treatment.  The short rib panfried dumplings are also sensational.

Little Bao has twenty seats in diner style, facing either the kitchen or a wall and it is always packed. No reservations, just get there by 6 or wait until a stool or two frees up. It is hard for me to get there often unfortunately because of this policy. The 6pm open and casual diner style make it a fantastic week night place with kids.  The staff is lovely and welcoming. They also allow kids to have their food the way they want it which is why the Pork Bao above may look a little naked. Usually it is served with Leek and Shiso red onion salad, sesame dressing and hoisin ketchup delicious to me. But my 7 year old wanted Pork and Bao and they obliged. I love a restaurant that is not too stuck up to cater to kids.

Even if you can’t get there at 6pm anytime they are open, they will make you an ice cream Bao. Often after walking out of dinner elsewhere, I will redirect groups here. Even if I can’t have my whole meal there at least I go a little something!
