Best Valentine’s Candy in Hong Kong

Valentines Day is one of my favorite holidays of the year! A holiday celebrating love, friendship and sweetness; what could be wrong with that? Many pooh-pooh it, saying it is a Hallmark holiday not a real one. It’s not that I disagree, it just does not matter to me who thought of it, I love celebrating it! In Hong Kong, it is often neglected though, especially when Chinese New Year falls so close to it, like this year. Finding Valentines treats can be a bit tricky on these years.

When Mr. Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe opened in October, I already had them pegged for a go-to Valentine’s Day store and they did not disappoint. This old-fashioned British candy store could be fun any day of the year and a bit dangerous. British parents will be thrilled to see all of their old favorites. I, an American, found one of mine too; Bit –O-Honey, I have missed you.

There is plenty of packaged candy, a chocolate counter and a Pick and Mix counter. It is so nice that the staff weighs and pulls the candy for you, rather than letting customers go grabbing. I can definitely imagine overdoing it here and would not walk in with my kids without a budget. Sometimes it is fun to get a treat though and for Valentine’s Day , these indulgences are allowed, even encouraged.

Details: Mr. Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe, 37 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Open Daily 10am-8pm.
